Darren Sammy

Darren Sammy is one of the great modern-day leaders. Under his leadership, West Indies went on to win the T20 World Cup- not once but twice – and the way he led the team amidst all the issues that were plaguing West Indies cricket at the time, speaks volumes about his character.
But West Indies would have missed out on such a great leader had Sammy listened to his mother and not persisted with his dream. A proud Christian, Sammy’s mother would take him to church every Saturday morning and that would naturally clash with his cricket match timings.
Sammy would frequently complain but his mother didn’t pay heed to it as she thought that it was futile on his part to pursue a career in cricket as St. Lucia had never produced an international cricketer.
A few later, Sammy not only became the first cricketer to represent the West Indies from his island but also the first captain in the history of the game to win two T20 World Cup titles.
