Darren Sammy: 5 cricketers who inspired fans with their speech 1

The two-time West Indies captain stormed the world after winning the thrilling World T20 final at the iconic Eden Gardens beating England in the final. The West Indies Cricket Board has sent the best possible team to India for the ICC’s most sought tournament. Batsmen like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, and Lendl Simmons were part of the team. Darren Sammy played the role of captain he didn’t have to play a crucial role with the bat as his mighty top order did the job on most of the matches. But his captaincy helped West Indies to win important matches. In the final Carlos Brathwaite’s  monstrous  four sixes off  Ben Stokes in the last over  changed the hue  of the match.

West Indies have won their second WT20 trophy. On the same day  rejuvenated West indies Women team defeated Australian women to win their maiden WT20 title.  The entire squad, both men and women teams, celebrated the victory. The Eden Gardens also celebrated with them.  But at the press conference, emotional Sammy   shocked everyone present at the ground revealing the plight of players and West Indies cricketers. Sammy, who was almost in tear, said, “We had no uniforms, no printing”. The West Indies Cricket Board didn’t send any uniform for the national team. Their uniform was printed in Kolkata. Sammy regaining the composure, further added, “but all of us came together, these 15 men put adversity aside, playing this type of cricket in front of such passionate fans. It was tremendous. This is for all the fans in the Caribbean. I don’t know when I’m going to be playing for West Indies again, I want to thank my team and my coaching staff.” The WICB didn’t select them for the triangular series at home which involve Australia and South Africa.

Sammy also took a dig at commentator Mark Nicholas, who called West Indian players dumb and without brains.
