Toggle2. Ambati Rayudu:
The decision to retire from the game of cricket completely came in the frustration from Ambati Rayudu. The way he was ignored to find a place in the world cup squad played a key role in calling curtains on his career.
He made his international debut in July 2013, in an ODI against Zimbabwe and has been both in and out of the team depending on various situations. Last year, Rayudu announced his retirement from first-class cricket to focus on one-dayers and T20s. Of course, he wanted to represent India in CWC 2019.
However, despite having two injured players in the team (Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar), he did not get a chance to be a part of the team. In fact, he was given a cold shoulder and was not included in the 15 member squad which was initially announced.
When Shikhar Dhawan got injured, 21-year-old Rishabh Pant was asked to fill in his place. Moreover, after Vijay Shankar’s injury, Mayank Aggarwal’s name was put forth by BCCI.
This must-have lead to a lot of emotional pressure for Rayudu, who despite giving his best in the past few years, was under-appreciated.
