One of the six England batsmen to cross the 8,000-run mark in Test cricket, so far, Kevin Pietersen’s illustrious Test career came to an unceremonious end due to his prolong feud with England cricket. But, the South Africa-born star managed to leave such a huge mark with his willow that The Guardian called him England’s greatest batsman in 2012.

The right-handed batsman might have ended with a 50-plus average had he not been made the scapegoat for England disastrous performance in the 2013/14 Ashes, but ifs and buts do not enhance a player’s stats based on his reputation, as he too bowed out of the game with an average of less than 50.

Pietersen played 104 Tests, scoring 8181 runs at an average of 47.28 including 23 centuries and 35 half-centuries with a top score of 227.
