With the team India to play 3 One day Internationals and two T-20 from 10th July, the Indian selectors have chosen a second string side giving rest to senior players. It is a chance for the fringe players to perform well in this series.
Here we look at the 5 key Players for India in Zimbawawe series:
1. Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa has been selected for this tour. He has been a consistent performer in the Ranji Trophy. He played his last One day International against Bangladesh in 2014. With the main players rested for this series it is a great chance for Uthappa to make a lot of runs. He has been in and out of the team. With no specialist keeper in the team, Uthappa might be the keeper for the series as he has done for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
2. Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey was named in the squad for the West Indies series last year for T-20 squad but that series did not happen. He is an attacking batsman and will be making his debut in this series. He will be looking to prove his mettle and play his natural game. He might come at number 4. He has too been a consistent performer for KKR in the IPL and also in the domestic circuit.
3. Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh will be making his comeback in One day International cricket after 4 years. He was selected for the Test match against Bangladesh which ended in a draw. He is an experienced bowler and with him being in the team his experience can make a lot of difference for the Indian team. He was a part of the Indian team which won the World Cup 2011. Since then he was out of the team because of injury or poor form. This might be his last chance to prove his mettle.
4. Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay has been a consistent performer for India in Test matches. With the openers Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan rested for this series; it is a chance for Vijay to make runs in this series. Vijay has not played too many One day Internationals, but the selectors have given a chance to open the innings. If he scores then he create pressure on the other two regular openers – Dhawan and Rohit Sharma.
5. Ajiyanka Rahane
In this series Rahane has been named the captain. In the last series against Bangladesh Rahane was dropped for the last two One day Internationals and in the next series he has been named the captain. It will be a challenge for him but being in the Indian team, it should not be a problem. Rahane has been a consistent performer for India in Test matches.
So let’s see which of these players can make runs.
