Scrapping batting Powerplay between overs 15-40 (ODIs)
Earlier bowlers were used to suffer a “hiding to nothing” with batting teams going on a rampage in the last fifteen overs, utilizing the expansive gaps in the outfield. But following this rule’s inception, ICC decided to scrap the batting Powerplay where you were only allowed to go with three fielders outside the circle. The power-play was generally taken between the 36th and 40th overs. So the batting team always waited for those 15 overs where it was all hell broke loose and especially if a batsman was set on a perfect batting wicket bowlers were literally murdered with fours and sixes. But this rule came up with a perfect balance between the batsmen and the bowlers.
