Sourav Ganguly was dropped from Kolkata Knight Riders team. However, it was not made clear. Probably he failed to give the trophy to the team. He played for KKR for three seasons and was the leading scorer for the team.

He returned with his best figure for the franchise in the 2010 season after which he released by KKR. He had scored 493 runs in 14 matches in that particular season. Reportedly, the team management wanted a fresh squad so he was dropped from the team.

The prince of Kolkata was bought by Pune Warriors at the last moment for IPL 2011 as he was signed as the replacement. Earlier, he went unsold in the auction.

However, after playing for two seasons, in 2012, he announced that he has decided not to play in next year’s IPL and to retire from the game.
