Murugan Ashwin, the Tamil Nadu leg-spinner, was an unknown commodity in the Indian cricketing circle until he was bought for a stunning sum of 4.5 crores in the auction. However, it wasn’t just the case of being lucky. He finished as Tamil Nadu’s second highest wicket- taker in the 2015/16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In six matches, he bowled 23 overs and took 10 wickets at an economy rate of just 5.52. He grabbed a scalp every 14 balls he bowled in the tournament. Known for his control and well disguised googly, the franchise kept raising the bid after his name flashed on the screen with a base price of 10 lakhs. Anticipation and excitement was building up quickly and eventually took a break when RPS snapped him for a record 4.5 crores.
