The level of cricket has gone to a whole new level which has left everyone spellbound. It might be debated at times that the quality of bowling in the yester years was far more superior than what is today, but it can’t be denied that the sort of shots which are hit wasn’t thought of even a decade ago.
Some of the players have been assets for their respective limited overs team. So with the World up still a couple of years away, we thought of listing down five individuals who can be the trump card for their respective team in the quadrennial event
Hardik Pandya (India)
The all-rounder has improved in each and every department and has been an integral set up of the Indian limited overs team. Over the past six months, he has emerged as a prolific all-rounder for India and has contributed to the team’ cause on more than one occasion. How can you forget the magnificent innings he played against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final. Despite India’s loss, Pandya played a blinder and his innings was applauded by all and sundry.
With the improvement he has shown in the last few months we can be least assured of the fact that he will go on to emerge as a prolific all-rounder especially in the limited overs circuit in the future years and can go on to be India’s trump card for the 2019 World Cup.
Ben Stokes
This Englishman has been making all the headlines for his prolific batting and his exceptional death bowling. He hasn’t fired all cylinders in the recent past but given his ability, he is undoubtedly a long term prospect in all three formats of the game. Stokes has the ability to change the complexion of the game within a blink of an eye with his audacious batting and can also be a more than useful option for his captain with the ball.
Kagiso Rabada
This young pacer from South Africa has been a find for the national team and has been a lethal weapon for his captain irrespective of formats. He can generate steep pace and can prodigiously swing the ball both ways. He is also a terrific death over bowler and can consistently hit the block hole. He has an exceptional slower delivery up his sleeves which can deceive any great batsman. He is also a handy lower order batsman who can turn out to be South Africa’ s hero in their bid to clinch the World Cup title which they have been craving for a long time.
Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah has been the stand out bowler for India as far as limited overs cricket is concerned. The lanky speedster can regularly click the 140kph mark and has a magical slower delivery up his sleeve. In the last year or so, Bumrah has taken death bowling to a whole new level especially in a generation where stroke-making has become relatively easy.
He has proved his mettle on a number of occasions and has proved to be a reliable option for the customer. Despite having an issue with overstepping, Bumrah will be an asset for India, as they build the team for the 2019 World Cup.
Asela Gunaratne
Despite a relatively lacklustre performance by Sri Lanka in the recent past, Gunaratne has emerged as a light amongst the darkness and has led his country to some exceptional victories especially in the shortest format of the game. It was his brilliance which capitulated the Lankans to their maiden series win in South African and Australian soil in the T20I format. He is also a handy off break bowler and can prove to be Sri Lanka’s primary weapon going into the 2019 World Cup.
