Bangladesh’s Mashrafe Mortaza recently decided to resign as the captain of the ODI team. He also could not find any in Bangladesh’s central contract list. The board also said that his inclusion in the team will depend upon his fitness. Ignoring his board’s statement, he said that he will continue playing for the team until the time he enjoys the game.

With the age passing by, Mortaza has lost his form. He was criticized for his performance in the whole season of 2019 as he could only manage with a solitary wicket in the World Cup. So far, the veteran has played 219 ODIs and picked 269 wickets. In the recently concluded ODI series against Zimbabwe, he picked two wickets in the first game but in the second game, he was badly beaten by the visitors, picking only one wicket.

The 36-year old has already retired from Tests and T20Is and now is the time he should give up ODI format as well. Having lost his form, he should retire from one-day contest to make room for the youngsters.
