5 players who might decide the fate of India- Australia ODI series
India will play Australia in a five-match One-day International series against the World Champions in their own den starting from 12th January. The Indian team’s record in Australia has not been great but they have a point to prove. It will be an exciting series between these two cricketing superpowers.
Here, we look at the 5 players who might decide the fate of India vs Australia One-day International series:
1 R Ashwin
R Ashwin has been the go-to bowler for the Indian team since the World Cup 2015. He was criticized before the World Cup that he tries too many variations. In the World Cup 2015, he looked in great form. In the Test series against Sri Lanka and South Africa, he was named the man of the series on both occasions. Ashwin was injured during the first One-day International against South Africa and did not participate in the remaining One day Internationals. In the upcoming One-day International series against Australia, he will play an important role in picking wickets and also controlling the flow of runs. He has become a match-winning bowler for India and he does not have to do anything different to bring success to India.
2. David Warner
David Warner – an explosive opener – has been in great form. He gives the Australian team a quick start and does not allow the bowlers settle to a line and length. He attacks the bowlers and makes the life of the bowlers difficult. In the upcoming One-day International series against India, Warner needs to continue his brilliant form. His average in One day Internationals is excellent but he might not feature as his wife is expecting a second child. Shaun Marsh has been kept as a standby for David Warner.
3. Mohammad Shami
Mohammad Shami returns to cricketing action after 9 long months. He played his last One-day International in the World Cup semi-finals. He played some domestic games leading to One-day International series and some T20 games. In the One-day International series against South Africa at home he was missed badly and with Shami coming back into the squad, the bowling attack will become more potent and lethal. The question remains how effective he will be after a long layoff after an injury. Mohammad Shami will play an important role in the seam bowling attack and it is to be seen how he exploits the Australian conditions. He has the experience of playing in Australian conditions in the World Cup.
4. Steve Smith
Steve Smith has been in excellent form for Australia in all formats. In World Cup 2015 he scored 5 half centuries and played an important role in helping Australia to win their 5th World Cup title. Steve Smith was the top run scorer in Test matches last year. The first series of 2016 will be an important one for Steve Smith to prove his credentials as a captain and also as a batsman. With the upcoming series against India, Steve Smith will play an important role as a batsman and as a captain. Australia will hope he continues his form from where he left in 2015 and bring success to Australian team.
5. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli’s form in the One day Internationals for the past 1 year has been a concern. He needs to take time to settle instead of playing strokes right from ball one. In 2015, he scored 623 runs which is quite decent. In the Test matches against Australia, he scored 4 centuries and then in One day International tri series he failed to score big runs. In World Cup 2015, he scored only 1 century and then in rest of the matches he did not play according to potential. In the upcoming One day International series against Australia he needs to play long innings and help India win the series in their home den. It will be important for Kohli to start 2016 on a positive note.
