India defeated Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in yesterday’s match at Mirpur, Dhaka and booked a place in the finals of the Asia Cup T20 tournament. India played excellent cricket and outplayed Sri Lanka in all departments. India won it’s third match in succession in this tournament. Here are the five reasons for India’s over Sri Lanka.

1. Picking early wickets and restricting the opposition
Dhoni won the toss and choose to field in yesterday’s match. The Indian bowlers made use of the conditions by bowling in the right areas. Bumrah and Nehra picked 2 early wickets which put pressure on the Sri Lankan batting line up. Hardik Pandya also picked a wicket of Dilshan. Whenever a partnership was threatening, the Indian team picked wickets at regular wickets. The Indian bowling was impressive with Bumrah taking 2 wickets, Pandya taking 2 wickets, Ashwin 2 wickets and Nehra 1. The Indian bowling restricted the Sri Lankan batting line to 138 for 9 in 20 over’s. Apart from Jadeja, all other bowlers did not allow the Sri Lankan batsmen to score runs with ease.

2. Good fielding and catching
India’s fielding in yesterday’s match was impressive. Raina took a high catch while Rohit Sharma produced an excellent run out to dismiss Shanka off a no ball. Hardik Pandya took an impressive catch at the boundary rope. The Indian fielding really showed intent and put pressure on the Sri Lankan batting line up. India’s fielding in this tournament has been impressive. In yesterday’s match the Indian fielding saved few runs and picked up important catches at the right time.

3. Virat Kohli match winning knock
In yesterday’s match chasing 139, the Indian innings got off to a worse start losing 2 early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Dhawan. Virat Kohli came to the crease and stroked the ball right from ball 1. He made the batting look easy. He and Suresh Raina put up an important third wicket stand which helped the Indian team to recover from early blows. After Suresh Raina dismissal, Virat Kohli took singles as Yuvraj Singh was timing the balls. Virat Kohli completed his half century off 44 balls. Kohli hit the winning runs and remained not out on 56. He was awarded the man of the match. Kohli continued from where he left in the match against Pakistan where he scored 49 in tough conditions.

4. Yuvraj Singh quickfire 35 off 18 balls
Yuvraj Singh looked in lethal form in yesterday’s match. Yuvraj Singh came to the crease and scored a boundary off his second ball. Yuvraj Singh smashed Rangana Hearth for two sixes which showed that the player in coming back into form. He smashed another six off Perera bowling. He continued his aggressive approach by hitting a boundary off Chammera bowling. He was dismissed by playing a shot off a bouncer. He was dismissed for 35 off 18 balls. This innings would have given a lot of confidence ahead of the finals and the World T20. When Kohli was taking time, Yuvraj Singh took the pressure from him. The innings against Pakistan where he stayed for a while at the crease had helped him a lot in yesterday’s match.

5. Suresh Raina coming back into form
Suresh Raina in yesterday’s match spent some time on the crease. When India lost 2 early wickets, Suresh Raina struggled little bit against the moving ball. After that Suresh Raina and Kohli played good cricket taking singles and hitting the bad balls away for boundaries. Before this match Raina was dismissed for low scores against Pakistan and Bangladesh. Suresh Raina scored 25 off 26 balls with 2 fours. This auger well for the Indian team ahead of the finals
