5 reasons why Cricket will be boring this summer

The World T20 and IPL have gone the international cricket has started. But the upcoming tournaments unlikely to catch up the imagination of Indian fans. The tired eyes of Indian sports fans are looking for something  different. This season 2016-2017 may not be able to attract the eyeball of cricket fans till the Champions Trophy starts.

The reasons are here.

India’s next big tour is in the 2017 Champions Trophy

India will play two low key tournaments this year. In June, they will tour Zimbabwe and  in  July  Virat’s Kohli’s India will tour West Indies for a four-match Test series.  A bunch of young players will tour  Zimbabwe while the West Indies may not be able to pose a big challenge to India. So, both these tournaments  will be comparatively easy for the visitor.  In the Carribean  Virat Kohli lead Test team will be going to full strength which will be no match for the  West Indies.  The series in the Carribean will start late evening that too will not suit the time of Indian fans. So Indian spectators will not show much interest in these series.

Overdose of T20 cricket made fans tired

Overdoes T20 cricket is a big concern for the cricket. Fans are tired watching the shortest format for over three months. They spent a lot on tournaments. India started with a series win over Australia and then Asia Cup T20 but failed to win the T20 World Cup at home that made fans bore. With two low key tournaments are on the card fans will not pay any heed to the sports.

Marquee sports events will draw many eyeballs

Other marquee sports tournaments like   Euro Cup, Olympic will starts soon  so these two events will capture the imagination of the world. Euro Cup is the second biggest football tournament in the world after football world cup is intriguing for the fans while Olympic  will be another big event that will draw many eyeballs from India as India will send a good contingent who will give one billion Indians a hope.  In Olympic, a gold will give India more reputation than a series victory in Zimbabwe or West Indies.

Cricketers are emotionally drained

World T20, IPL have made cricketers emotionally drained. They motivate themselves each and every day. But, you can’t always Virat Kohli plays outstanding innings. They also wait for big tournaments and challenges that motivate them to perform.

But India will have a less important tour in the next two months.  South Africa, one of the strongest limited over the team, lost their first ODI to West Indies due to tiredness and lack of motivation.

Bilateral series fail to embrace fans

Pakistan’s England tour, Australia’s Sri Lanka tour and Sri Lanka’s England tour all are a contest between David and goliath. So the winners of the series are easily recognizable.

Fans are waiting for something different from cricket  and that too will not come till the Champions Trophy starts in 2017.

Now for the next couple of months Centenario  Copa America, Euro Cup, and Olympic will be the favourite tournaments for sports loving people around the world.
