Yuvraj Singh is arguably the best match winner India has ever had in the limited over formats as he has helped the team to win two world cups. The 34-year old has slowly faded away from the national side due to his poor performances post 2011 as cancer has taken a toll on his career.
However, he has not given up on the hopes of making a comeback to Team India after getting dropped from T20I side post world cup this year. The southpaw has hit the domestic circuit by storm as he has piled up runs in Ranji Trophy as he has already managed an impressive 587 runs in 4 matches. With the injury to Rohit Sharma, many believed Yuvi would be called back to Team India as he is the optimal option available. But the selectors has once again overlooked the veteran batsman. Here we look at the 5 reasons why Yuvi was not selected to the test team.
#1. Team oozing with talent in middle order
Despite the absence of Rohit Sharma, Indian middle order batsmen have been in fine form which has left the likes of Karun Nair on the bench despite scoring runs in the domestic circuit.
If the selectors had opted for Yuvraj Singh then the southpaw would be playing in the XI which will hamper chances for players like Nair who deserve a test match.
#2. Not a reliable all-arounder in Tests
Despite being one of the most feared all-rounders in limited overs formats, Yuvraj Singh had failed to replicate the same success in the longest format of the game.
He has been decent with the bat despite getting chances here and there but has not been up to the mark with the ball as his bowling doesn’t suit the longer format.
#3. Team for the future
The team under Virat Kohli is young and energetic as the selectors are looking for a team for the future which could dominate the test cricket for the next decade.
The selectors are keen to provide more chances to the youngsters to prove their worth. The selectors have taken a similar stand when it came to openers as Gautam Gambhir has managed to break into the team only when both Rahul and Dhawan were injured.
#4. Can be selected after a while
The selectors might be backing Yuvraj Singh but the southpaw might not have been selected as the selection panel are looking for more consistency.
If the southpaw can manage his consistency over the next few Ranji matches then he has very good chance of getting back into the Indian team.
#5. Inconsistency in Team India
The earlier selection committees have awarded Yuvi chances in Team India once in a while after his impressive performances in domestic circuits but the southpaw has failed to live up to the hype created which saw him perform less than brilliant.
This could be one of the reasons which played part in the minds of selectors as they might be looking for other options.yuyuyu
