5 Records In The IPL That Are Impossible To Break. Ever since the Indian Premier League was incorporated, the T20 format of the sport took a turn for the good as domestic leagues started to crop up all around the world.
But the Indian version still reigns above most other because of the quality on show in this competition year after year. Though it has been at times plagued by controversy, it has provided some incredible moments that cannot be forgotten in a hurry.
There have been a number of games that produced some brilliant performances and some of them at such a level which is hard to reach ever again. There are a number of records set in the IPL that will take some doing to beat. Here are 5 such unbreakable records in the Indian Premier League.
5 Records In The IPL That Are Impossible To Break
Highest team total (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
The Chinnaswamy franchise, owned by the United Spirits have, right from the first season, a strong team that can beat even the best teams in the world. The likes of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers have all been sensational for the club and have always produced some astonishing moments. In the 2013-season, RCB produced a sensational game as they took the Pune Warriors franchise to the cleaners and set them a target of 264 after being put in to bat.
Chris Gayle was at his peak as he scored an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls in one of the most memorable innings in T20 cricket. A late 31 off just 8 balls from De Villiers made sure that they reach a target that will stay in the record books for a long time.
Best winning streak (Kolkata Knight Riders)
One of the most consistent teams in the IPL, the Kolkata Knight Riders already have won two league titles to show for their dominance in the tournament. They have had a very balanced team right from the first season and have a very strong core in both batting and the bowling departments. They have some superb all-rounders as well that give the team a very strong look.
So it is not a surprise that they have produced the longest winning streak ever in the tournament. This streak of 10 games without a defeat was spread over the 2014 and 2015 seasons where they were simply unplayable. The Royal Challengers Bangalore were the team that broke this streak.
Highest individual score (Chris Gayle)
Arguably, the most versatile player in the T20 format, Chris Gayle owns a number of astonishing records in domestic leagues all over the world and also in international games. He is a fierce hitter at the top of the order where he can take the game away from the opposition within a matter of minutes.
This is exactly what he did in the 2013-season’s game against the Pune Warriors when he amassed an astonishing 175* runs of just 66 balls with 13 fours and 17 sixers at a strike-rate of 265.15. He helped his team to a record-breaking total of 264 and wrote his name in the record books with this innings. McCullum’s 158* in the first game of the inaugural IPL season is the second name on this list.
Best bowling figures (Sohail Tanvir)
The T20 format has never been kind to the bowlers. With innovative shots, shorter boundaries, and broader bats, the bowlers are cut no slack in the shortest format of the game. But time and again we have seen some extraordinary performances with the ball in the Indian Premier League.
In the inaugural season, when a number of players from different countries were a part of the gala, Rajasthan Royals’ then strike bowler Sohail Tanvir produced a performance that will never be forgotten. In a game against the Chennai Super Kings, he ended up with figures of 6/14 in his 4 overs which is a record that has not even close to being broken. With the game growing more in favour of the batsmen, it is hard to see this record being broken anytime soon.
Largest victory margin by runs (Kolkata Knight Riders)
One of the most beautiful things about the IPL is the competition between the sides in the tournament. There have hardly been games that have been completely one-sided given the amount of talent in every team in the competition.
However, in the first game ever played in the IPL, the Kolkata Knight Riders produced a brilliant all-round performance to thump past the Royal Challengers Bangalore with an astonishing margin of 140 runs. Brendon McCullum’s 158* propelled the KKR to a score of 222 while an all-round bowling performance in the second innings saw the RCB franchise fold out for just 82 runs. This record for the largest victory margin has ever since stayed in the record books.
