With the World Cup 2015 got over yesterday with Australia declared the winner for the 5th time it was a brilliant display from 14 countries that participated in the tournament and made it a wonderful tournament for all the viewers in the stadiums and all round the World. - Australia winning the World Cup for 5th time
Australia won the World Cup 2015 by 7 wickets and won the World Cup for the 5th time. It was an excellent display by the Australian team which lost the only game losing to NewZeleand but since then the team played some brilliant cricket with lot of aggression and positive intent. The bowlers did a great job with Mitchell Starc was highest wicket taker with 22 wickets to his name. The batsmen did a great job scoring at important moments and contributing to the team’s cause. Australia had won the World Cup in 1987, 1999, 2003,2007 and now.
- Few Cricketing greats retiring from ODI cricket
In this World Cup we saw few cricketing greats retiring from ODI cricket. Kumar Sangakra and Mahela Jayawarnde from Sri Lanka, Misbah UL Haq and Shahid Afridi from Pakistan, Brendon Taylor from Zimbawawe, Michael Clarke contributed to the World Cricket. After losing the game against South Africa in the quarter finals both of Sri Lankan greats bided farewell who played over 400 matches each for their country, Misbah and Shahid Afridi cried after losing their quarter finals match against Australia, Brendon Taylor played an excellent knock of 138 against India and said that he want to spend time with family, Micheal Clarke won the World Cup and said that it is right time to nurture a new captian for the Next World Cup in 2019.
- Martin Guptil 237 against West Indies
Martin Guptil played one of the amazing knocks in the World Cup history. This match was played Wellington in the 4th quarter finals. New Zeleand won the toss and elected to bat. Martin Guptil played sensibly at the start and was dropped early. He took the advantage of that and made the West Indies bowlers pay for that chance. Martin Guptil after 30 over’s just took apart the West Indies bowling. He smashed 50 off 64 balls, 100 in 111 balls, next 50 in 23 balls, and next 50 in 18 balls. He scored 237 not out off 163 balls smashing 24 fours and 11 sixes. Because of his knock NewZeleand were able to score a massive 393 for 6 in 50 over’s.
- India’s winning streak
The performance of the Indian team was a brilliant one in the tournament. They won 7 matches in a row till the quarter finals and played some exceptional cricket after dismal Australian tour which included the test matches and tri series. In the World Cup 2015 India beat Pakistan, the strong South African team, beat West Indies, beat UAE, beat Ireland, beat Zimbawawe and beat Bangladesh in the quarter finals. The Indian team lost to a strong Australian team in the semi finals. The best thing about this team was that their bowling comprising of Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Mohmmad Shami, Ashwin picked 70 wickets in 7 matches and their batting looked very solid.
- New Zeleand reaching the finals of World Cup for 1st time
NewZeleand played some excellent cricket throughout the tournament. They played with aggression and positive attitude. It is the first time that a country which is known for Rugby has done well in Cricket also. Brendon Mcullum lead the way with aggressive captaincy and the rest of the team also played some attacking cricket too. They used to falter at semi finals stage but this time they won 8 games in a row. The best match for NewZeleand came in the semi finals when the home team had to chase 298 runs in 43 over’s. Grant Elliot played one of the best knocks and helped NewZeleand to the reach the finals for the first time in World Cup history. They lost to Australia in the finals.
