But people very rarely know such couples in cricketing history. With women’s cricket also rising along with the ranks of popularity, cricket couples have also come into the light. These couples have also shown that true love has no boundaries.

Thus, here we will discuss five cricket couples who have also come in limelight. Interestingly, these couples have also have represented their respective teams at the international or highest level.

Ruth Westbrook and Roger Prideaux are among the few cricketing couples who have played Test cricket. Both of them have represented the England cricket team at the international level.

The opening batsman Roger made the debut in the England team in 1968. He has played three Test matches and scored 102 runs.

Whereas his wife Ruth, wicketkeeper-batsman, has played 11 Test matches for the England women’s team. After retiring from the game, she coached and managed the England women’s team from 1988-93. Under her, England won the 1993 World Cup.

Ruth passed away in April 2016 at the age of 65.

Guy de Alwis and Rasanjali de Silva:

The Sri Lanka batsman Guy de Alwis, who started his career in the 1980s, tied the knot to the Sri Lanka women’s cricketer Rasanjali Silva. Alwis represented his national team in 11 Tests and 31 ODIs between 1983 and 1988.

On the other hand, Rasanjali featured in a solitary Test and 22 One-day internationals (ODIs). She has played two world cups that include the 1997 Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and the 2000 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

Sir Richard Hadlee and Karen Ann Marsh:

Sir Richard Hadlee is regarded is counted in one of the best of an allrounder in the cricketing history. The New Zealand cricketer was the premier fast bowler for his team back in the 1980s. He played a crucial role in Kiwis’ first and the only Test series victory till now in Australia back in 1985-86. Also, he was the first bowler to take 400 wickets in Test cricket.

His wife Karen Ann Marsh has played a solo ODI for New Zealand women’s cricket team that too during the 1978 World Cup in India, against England.

Being an allrounder, she was not given a chance to bowl. Later, the pair divorced and has two sons.

Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite:

In the contemporary world, same-sex marriage is now not a big taboo. New Zealand became liberal in 2013 for this particular subject. In the wake of the same, New Zealand’s women cricketers Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite got engaged in 2014 and married in March 2017.

Amy Satterthwaite is the skipper of New Zealand whereas Lea Tahuhu is the fast bowler. The latter participated in the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 while the skipper was in the break as she has given birth to their first child in January.

Satterthwaite represented the national side in 101 ODIs and 75 T20Is while Tahuhu has played in 48 ODIs and 32 T20Is.

Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp:

Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp got married back in July 2018. The South Africa couple lastly played together at ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 and became the first cricket couple to bat together at major ICC tournaments.

Dane van Niekerk is the current captain of the Proteas female team, who has represented the team in 102 ODIs and 78 T20Is while she has only played one Test.

On the other hand, the 30-year old Marizanne Kapp is also one of the handy all-rounders for South Africa. She has scored 1834 runs in 108 ODIs apart from snaring 123 wickets.

Alyssa Healy and Mitchell Starc:

Cricket Australia granted permission to pacer Mitchell Starc to leave the South Africa ODI series in between to watch his wife Alyssa Healy play in final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. He was praised for his lovely move for his wife by fans.

Alyssa Healy also didn’t disappoint her husband as she played incredible innings of 75 runs off 39 balls against India in the final to lead her team to victory.

Well, Starc and Healy got engaged in 2015 and tied the knot on 15th April 2016.
