But whenever his name taken, a memory always flashes in every fan mind i.e, he dropped a crucial catch which ended the hopes of South Africa to lift World Cup 1999 trophy.
South Africa was dominating the field against Australia but the whole plot was changed by the Australian Skipper Steve Waugh. But Gibbes missed the chance to send the skipper back as he dropped the catch.
Well, after the completion of the drop, Steve Waugh said ‘That’s going to cost your team today, Hersch’, which was dubbed as ‘‘How does it feel to have just dropped the World Cup?” Still, a section of people feels that Steve Waugh has sledged Gibbs with the second-mentioned sentence, which isn’t true.
