7 Indian Players Who Are Uncertain For ICC World Cup 2019

With less than 100 days left for the upcoming ICC grand event, there is a lot to ponder about for the Indian fans. The recent loss in the series against Australia has opened up quite a few options for the selectors before heading into the ICC World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, we figured out 7 players, whose place in the Indian National Cricket team is uncertain at the moment.

Here are they:

7. Umesh Yadav:

The right-handed fast bowler has always been on the radar for the selection in the Indian team. One day, he looks world-class on the other day, he bowls like a schoolboy, who is yet to know the basics. He was given a chance in the recent T20I series against Australia but ended up on the wrong side of the things.

But, still, he got ample chances to make into the ICC World Cup 2019 squad. The flamboyant cricketer has been brilliant for India in the ICC World Cup 2015 alongside Mohammed Shami. As foreign conditions help fast bowlers, he would certainly be on the table.

He can get a chance if the selectors feel that there is a need for an extra fast bowler in the team. Khaleel Ahmed would be his competitor.

6. Ravindra Jadeja:

The left-handed all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is another player, who is still unsure of his place in the side. He delivered for India with the ball by bowling economical spells and taking wickets at the crucial phases of the game.

Recently, Virat Kohli said that his inclusion in the side will bring a balance to the team. He can bat at the deep and bowl those crucial overs for his captain. To press his case further, he had a good record in England, where he bagged golden ball for his performance in ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

Again, it boils down to the question of whether India needs an extra spinner or not? He would be the obvious choice if India wants to get a backup for Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

5. Vijay Shankar:

Another interesting name on the list would be Vijay Shankar. Out of nowhere, he made it to the scheme of things for the grand event. In absence of Hardik Pandya, Shankar made a name of his own by knocking runs at crucial times for India.

The knocks he played in New Zealand and Australia helped him to gain the trust of the Indian management. However, his bowling has been a worry, as he isn’t up to the mark. He also failed to grab the chance in the final ODI of the series.

It would be an interesting choice from selectors. If selectors feel that he is useful for the team as a floater than probably he would get a ticket to the World Cup. He got good chances but yet an uncertain player, as a lot of players pressing their case.

4. Rishabh Pant:

The left-handed batsman wouldn’t have imagined that he would end up receiving flak from the Indian people after the series against Australia. First, he failed to impress with his gloves, instead, played a key role in losing the game.

In the final ODI, he was given a chance to bat at number 4 for the team. Once again, he failed to deliver things for the team. However, he will be the backup wicketkeeper of MS Dhoni, which would push selectors to think regarding his performance with the bat only.

His strongest competition would be Dinesh Karthik. The right-handed batsman has done fairly enough job to be back in the side. However, Pant can get the nod if selectors feel embedding left-handed batsman in the team would benefit.

3. Dinesh Karthik:

And yeah, even, Dinesh Karthik isn’t an exception. The flamboyant batsman is still not the certain player to make into the chart. Yes, Rishabh Pant is the reason here. There is a stiff competition between Dinesh and Rishabh for the one slot.

There are equal chances for both the players before heading into the ICC World Cup 2019. If selectors go with the experience Dinesh Karthik gets the nod, as he is better wicketkeeper than Rishabh Pant. Or else, Rishabh would get the nod for his batting skills and the recent performances in England.

All in all, it is going to be tricky. Perhaps, the initial few matches in IPL might help selectors take the call.

2. KL Rahul:

There is no denying for the fact that KL Rahul has been the talented player. But, the lack of application from the youngster is causing a big pain for the Indian cricket team. The flamboyant batsman was given enough chances and run in the team but never had a good run to stabilise his place in the side.

He was decent in the T20I format but he couldn’t repeat the same in the ODI format. Rahul was given a chance in the solitary game but he couldn’t make the most of the opportunity. However, he got the backing from the head coach and the skipper.

With no potential competitor for KL Rahul, he might get the nod. But, if selectors like to take any gamble after the performances in IPL, KL Rahul would lose his place for sure.

1. Ambati Rayudu:

None would have expected that Rayudu would find it tough to travel England for ICC World Cup 2019. Especially, after the knock against Kiwis, people would have expected him to bat at number 4 for India in the grand event.

But, everything isn’t the same for Rayudu. He lost the trust of the Indian management and the fans after his poor knocks on a trot. He himself became an unpredictable player for the team, which is the real concern.

He gave the chance for India to test new players at number 4 once again. If selectors feel Vijay Shankar can do the job at number 4 for India than the obvious candidate to lose a place would be Ambati Rayudu.
