Harbhajan Singh’s cricket career is looking as good as over. The veteran off-spinner, who was the first Indian to take a hat-trick in Tests, is behind Ravichandran Ashwin in the pecking order. The comeback is now tough with the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal pressing their claims for a place in the team with consistent performances.
While he is almost out of contention for a place in the Test team, he is also very much unlikely to return to the limited-overs team. The 37-year old, who played his last Test in 2015, made his last appearance for India in the last year’s Asia Cup which was a T20I tournament while his last ODI appearance came in 2015. Moreover, the way things have panned out this year, the signs are not promising for the spinner. Even in the Indian Premier League, Karn Sharma has been preferred ahead of him while he has been ignored from the Duleep Trophy squads too.
Not surprisingly, he has faced severe criticism for his inconsistent performances and what has made matters worse for him are his comments regarding the other spinners of the team. Last year, he got caught in a storm after claiming that Ashwin has been wreaking havoc in Test cricket due to favorable pitches. As expected, his comments caused quite a stir, and he faced widespread criticism.
Well, the Punjab star, on Saturday (September 2), posted a cryptic message on Twitter, slamming his critics and detractors. Harbhajan, who had previously blasted a fan who wanted one of the bowler’s tweets in Hindi; once again wrote in Hindi which roughly translates to:“I have hired some people behind my back who do not get any salary but do their jobs honestly.”
