Aakash Chopra, the former India and KKR batsman had brought his attention to a gaping loophole in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ setup which has time and again came back to haunt the franchise in UAE this season.
Aakash Chopra said KKR’s batting line up hasn’t been up to the mark in this IPL 2020 season and flattered to deceive. He cited the example of youngsters like youngster opener Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana who have failed to be consistent and kept getting out after being set and looked poised for a big score.
Aakash Chopra: KKR Have A Problem Of Not Getting Going In Batting
Although, Shubman Gill has scored 311 runs in nine matches averaging 38.87, but he is playing slowly at a below-par strike rate of less than 115. Nitish Rana scored 184 runs in nine matches averaging 20.44 but has scored only one fifty.
Newly-appointed skipper Eoin Morgan has scored 248 runs averaging 41.33, and Dinesh Karthik has managed 141 runs at a below-par average of 17.62. Andre Russell has scored only 92 runs and picked 6 wickets which is a disappointment to the fans who expected him to score big runs.
“David Warner won the toss and opted to field. KKR have a problem that they just cannot get going in their batting. They are trying but it is not happening. Gill plays but plays slowly and then he gets out. Tripathi didn’t score much,” Aakash Chopra said in a video on his Youtube channel.
“Nitish Rana played a nice small cameo but he also got out after that. Russell is not scoring, that is a problem. Dinesh Karthik did a good job in his new role as a finisher.”
“KKR reached a score that was not that bad a total although not a great one because they finished strongly.”
In the match against SunRisers Hyderabad, KKR managed 163 with Shubman Gill top-scoring with 36 and new skipper Eoin Morgan scoring 34. Dinesh Karthik who managed single-digit scores in 5 matches scored an unbeaten 29 off 14 balls. His highest score of 58 came against Kings XI Punjab.
But KKR management isn’t happy with Dinesh Karthik as he can be replaced by the likes of Tim Seifert and Tom Banton for his poor form. Tim Seifert came in place of injured Ali Khan.
Kolkata Knight Riders Will Look To Avenge Defeat Against Royal Challengers Bangalore Whom They Meet Next
KKR take on RCB in their next fixture on 21st October, and it needs to be seen whether this time their batting clicks as a unit. Having finally got some momentum going, Kolkata Knight Riders led by Eoin Morgan will be looking to avenge their first leg rout by the star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore when the two sides clash in the IPL in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently third on the points table with 12 points, two more than Kolkata Knight Riders at fourth. For both sides, this represents a big chance to consolidate their positions in terms of the top four.
Eoin Morgan turned to Lockie Ferguson against SunRisers Hyderabad, and the New Zealand pacer first returned with figures of 3/15 and then picked 2 wickets in Super Over in his first IPL 2020 appearance. Everyone expects him to deliver again this time against the likes of AB De Villiers, RCB skipper Virat Kohli and opener Aaron Finch.
Eoin Morgan though will be worried though about the fitness of all-rounder Andre Russell and might give him rest just before the fag end of the tournament.
Aakash Chopra though commented that KKR have been finishing strongly despite the batsmen failing to convert starts to big scores. Aakash Chopra clearly suggests that KKR batsmen should step up and deliver in IPL 2020.
