Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra gave a straightforward answer which Dhoni’s fan would not take easily. He opined that India would manage to win the trophy without the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman.

“I think we can manage without him, let’s be honest. Because we are talking about 2021.”

“It is in India and you definitely want Dhoni to be there in the team and want him to play.”

He also observed that whether Dhoni himself is eager to join the team. According to him, Dhoni is doesn’t want to play for the Indian team.

But first thing, does Dhoni want to play? I have been saying this like a broken record that I feel he doesn’t want to play,” he added.

Aakash Chopra explained that even if MS Dhoni makes himself available, team India have to get used to managing without him for the World Cup 2023.

“But even if he is available, we are talking about 2021. It is still more than a year to go when that World Cup will happen in India. So, we have to get used to managing without him and I think will get used to it by then, Chopra said.

At last, Chopra concluded that MS Dhoni’s presence is not so critical that the Indian team cannot win the World Cup without him.

“So I feel his presence is not so important that if he is not there you will not win the World Cup,” he added.

MS Dhoni last played for India in the upsetting World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand. He made himself unavailable after the mega event. However, he would be seen in action for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL edition in the UAE.
