Three Indians But No MS Dhoni In Aakash Chopra’s T20I XI Of The Decade

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has named his T20 XI of the decade purely on the basis of stats. Surprisingly, he has handed over the captaincy of the team, which has the best T20 cricketers of the world, to Sri Lanka veteran Lasith Malinga.

Well, Malinga, who is also the captain of Sri Lanka’s T20I team, last played international cricket in March this year before the outbreak of the coronavirus. He has since then made himself unavailable from all the franchise leagues while his national team is yet to mark the comeback of the cricket.

Akash Chopra has picked up the two attacking batsman Rohit Sharma and Aaron Finch as the opener of his T20I XI of the decade. Rohit Sharma is the second-highest T20I scorer while Aaron Finch has ginormous records in the shortest format.

At batting no.3, undoubtedly, Virat Kohli gets the place in the Aakash Chopra’s team. Team India’s current captain is the highest scorer with 2928 runs in 85 matches in T20Is although the flamboyant batsman is yet to score a century in this format.

Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, who once held the number position in ICC’s allrounder ranking, has also been picked by Aakash Chopra although he hasn’t played international cricket for over more than one year.

England’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler is also a predictable name in Aakash Chopra’s T20 XI of the decade but it’s surprising to see that the former Indian cricketer has not picked up MS Dhoni, who has led India to maiden T20 World Cup trophy while also is one of the best finishers of the game.

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and West Indies’ Kieron Pollard are the two firepowers in the renowned commentator’s team. The duo is also an effective bowling option.

In the bowling department, Chora has gone with Rashid Khan as in and out spinner while has picked three best pacers of the contemporary world- Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc and Lasith Malinga

Aakash Chopra’s T20I XI of the decade: Rohit Sharma, Aaron Finch, Virat Kohli, Shakib Al Hasan, Jos Buttler (WK), Kieron Pollard, Glenn Maxwell, Rashid Khan, Lasith Malinga (C), Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc.
