The participation of the duo in the marquee event is still uncertain as the selector and team management are awaiting clearance from the medical team.

Earlier, it was reported that Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul are likely to return to the Indian team during the Asia Cup 2023, whereas Shreyas Iyer is expected to get fit for the mega event later this year.

According to the reports in Indian Express, It is understood that if KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer fail to make it into the India squad for the Asia Cup 2023 and their chances of making it into the ODI World Cup will remain slim as the team management will be concerned about their game time before playing the mega event in India.

The pair began practicing in preparation for an India comeback ahead of the mega events this year and is working hard to make a return to the Indian team for the ODI World Cup.

KL Rahul’s batting has helped the Indian team to play four frontline batters at the top of the orders as he plays the role of the finisher alongside Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja in the lower order down the order while Shreyas Iyer has been a crucial player for India providing stability for the team in the Indian middle order.

The case of absence of Iyer and Rahul from the team would give a chance to Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson to be part of the Asia Cup 2023 as they will look to prove their case strong for the ODI World Cup later this year.

India has struggled to play their full-strength squad in recent times with Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul undergoing surgeries followed by rehabilitation to return to the Indian squad for the World Cup in India.

India’s performance in ICC competitions has been disappointing in recent years. They have not won an ICC title since MS Dhoni led the team to glory in the 2013 Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue will be one of the favourites for the tournament and will be desperate to lay their hands on the trophy.
