When AB de Villiers Asked MS Dhoni ‘How Long Are You Gonna Do This For?’

While Mahendra Singh Dhoni and AB de Villiers are two of the biggest superstars of this generation, their career has not panned out similarly. Both the players have enthralled the fans with their exceptional batting exploits over the years, but while Dhoni has been consistently plying his trade for the team since his debut, de Villiers has endured a tough time as far as playing international cricket is concerned.
The Proteas star has not played Test cricket since January 2016 to focus more on limited-overs cricket. And with his future in limbo, he recently made himself available for selection in all the formats of the game. It is surprising that the right-handed batsman was finding it tough to focus on all the forms of the game despite being in his early 30s and perhaps that was the reason he approached Dhoni after the World Cup game in 2015 to know about the then India skipper’s secret behind his unquestionable longevity.
Recalling the incident during the presentation after India defeated South Africa, de Villiers expressed his surprise over how Dhoni manages to ‘go non-stop day in and day out.’
“I’ve mentioned it to people before, I’m not sure who, but I don’t know exactly how he does it. Going non-stop day in and day out. I’ve asked him actually after we played in the World Cup of 2015. India beats us at Melbourne. He stood there at the post match presentation. I asked him how long are you gonna do this for. He said ‘I love every second of it’,” de Villiers told The Ring Side view.
“It was only then I realised he is one of a kind and I’ll always have respect for him for what he has achieved in his career,” added AB.
