He underwent a surgery for the same and then missed the Test series against New Zealand followed ODI and Test series against Australia as well. Though he expressed his desire to play the third Test against Australia which was a pink ball affair but neither coach nor selectors paid heed to his demand.
De Villiers last played international cricket in the month of June against West Indies. Despite being out of cricket for about five months, De Villiers kept himself busy by promoting his autobiography namely AB: The Autobiography.
De Villiers will soon step on the field playing two T20 matches for Titans. There are fair chances of him being including in the Test series against Sri Lanka where he will take over captaincy duties from stand-in captain Faf Du Plessis who led his team to a clean sweep in ODI series followed by a 2-1 win series win in Test series over Australia.
The Test series against South Africa starts from December 26. The series comprises of Three Tests, Three T20Is and Five ODIs.
