South Africa captain AB de Villiers and lanky fast-bowler Morne Morkel will be available for Twenty20 competition of their top-level domestic league franchise, Titans, to prove their fitness challenge for the series against Sri Lanka, which will start later this month.
Morkel and de Villiers have been out of action since the Caribbean Premiere League with a back and an elbow injury respectively. Both are expected to be available for Proteas’ Test squad selection.
AB de Villiers has almost recovered from nasty elbow injury, that forced him to miss New Zealand Test series in August [2016], followed by an ODI series at home and the three vital Tests against Australia.
Proteas selection head Linda Zondi has said de Villiers needs to be fully fit before donning the national jersey.
It’s important to see whether de Villiers gets the all-important games on time to start the summer season at home and return as Proteas skipper.
The reports also suggest the experienced pacer Morne has not been declared fully fit to bowl longer spells. With this, his availability in Tests seems in doubt for a while.
