AB de Villiers opens up on match fixing in IPL

South African captain AB de Villiers has shared his opinion on match fixing which has been shaking the game of cricket over the past few decades from international cricket to T20 leagues such as Indian Premier League in recent times.

Speaking about the controversial happenings in IPL which has defamed its excellence in his autobiography, AB de Villiers has said he had not seen any of such happenings around him.

Match fixing has made BCCI ban the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for a span of two years as it rocked the Indian cricket when the scandal was out to the public.

The 32-year old who is regarded as one of the greatest of this era has wrote, ‘it is human nature that where there is money to be made, there will always be those prepared to go any lengths to pocket some for themselves”.

AB de Villiers has been an integral part of Indian Premier League as he has been one of the key players in the cash rich league from season 1 and has been one of the most followed cricketers in India. The player feels that International Cricket Council should put up  ‘proper systems’ along with national bodies to ensure no corruption happens in the game.

Expressing his personal opinion on match-fixing, he said that he ‘has never seen any indication of match-fixing and, if I did, I would report it immediately’.

“I really hate to think that players with or against me could be deliberately distorting the course of the game for their own financial gain. I simply can’t understand it”.

The Indian Premier League has seen a huge loss of reputation when Mumbai Police arrested Gurunath Meiyappan on charges of placing bets and being in contact with bookies back in May 2013 which has eventually led to the suspension of Chennai Super Kings as well as Rajasthan Royals.

The BCCI then decided to draft in two new teams, Rising Pune Super Giants and Gujarat Lions for the latest edition of IPL in 2016. The scandal has led to Supreme Court appointing Lodha committee which has made recommendations to the court which are needed to be followed by BCCI to allow transparency in the cricket board.
