The world No.1 England are ready to face the Proteas challenge at the Kennington Oval in London in the tournament opener. To some extent, veteran AB de Villiers must be regretting his decision of announcing surprising retirement. However, he is rallying around his team and this time away from the dressing room.

Since 2004, de Villiers went on to feature in 228 ODIs, 114 Tests and 79 T20Is for South Africa.
However, the stalwart took to his Twitter handle to extend support to Faf du Plessis-led Proteas.
With South Africa yet to lay hands on the coveted trophy, they’re brimming with confidence despite losing the services of their integral figure, de Villiers.

The prominent batsman reiterated that he believes the Proteas are ready to deliver at the quadrennial event. He has further asked fans to throw support behind the team.
Earlier, de Villiers himself wished to make a return in 2023 World Cup based on a condition. He maintained if MS Dhoni will be around, then he could think of returning to the ground.
