Team India spin ace Ravichandran Ashwin has asked everyone to read and learn the note which Indian batsman Abhinav Mukund shared on Twitter and had asked one and all to not ridicule his sentiments as it is involved with someone’s emotion.
You must be wondering what did Mukund wrote which irked Ashwin to write in this way. Before coming into the topic it must be learnt that Abhinav Mukund is a prolific run scorer in the domestic circuit but hasn’t been able to replicate his form at the international level which hasn’t allowed him to be a permanent fixture in the Indian team.
The southpaw took to his Twitter handle and wrote a big note where he expressed his feelings on being targeted again and again for his skin colour. He started off his note addressing his friends and followers that he has been playing cricket since the age of 10 and is honoured to represent his country in the longest format of the game.
Though he hasn’t been a permanent fixture, he made his national debut way back in 2011 against West Indies.
Now coming to the point Mukund writes,
“I am writing today not to garner sympathy or attention but with the hope to change the mindset of people on an issue I feel strongly about”. He conceded that he has been travelling a lot for his game since childhood but people’s obsession with his skin colour has been a mystery to him till now.
He conceded the fact that he has been training day in and day out in the sun ever since he was a child and haven’t regretted the fact that he was tanned or lost a couple of shades. He also conceded that he hails from Chennai which is one of the hottest places and has gladly spent most of his time on the cricket ground.
He was subject to a lot of names due to his colour but he shrugged it off, as he had bigger goals in life. He further added that with social media people are targeted more often than not due to skin colour which the person concerned has no control over. He concluded by saying that “Fair Isn’t the Only Lovely or Handsome Guys”
