Team India under the captainship of Ajinkya Rahane is ready to strike well during their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. But a few people know that it has become imperative that India must win all the three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Zimbabwe to retain their second place in the ODI rankings, an International Cricket Council (ICC) release said on Wednesday.
India face hosts Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series from Friday.
As per the tour programme, India will face hosts Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series from Friday. Right now, Second-ranked India (115 points) leads 11th-ranked Zimbabwe (44) by 71 ratings, thus becoming a favorites to win the series 3-0, failing which India will drop down the list.
A 3-0 win for India will help them maintain their second position with 115 points. In case Team India fail to facilitate a clean sweep, the equation will be:
1) A 2-1 win for India will see them drop two points but maintain their second spot.
2) 1-2 loss will mean India surrender four points and go down to fourth.
3) A 3-0 win for Zimbabwe will help them jump to 52 points, overtaking Ireland to the 10th spot, with India sliding to the fifth spot with 109.
However, many of the supporters are quite confident that not only Team India will be able to sustain their second spot, but it is possible that our boys will establish a few new records, in the both arenas of batting and bowling. This will certainly pave way for many Indian cricketers, part of the squad, to stake their future claim for a spot in the team India in future.
