Afghanistan is likely to tour India after the ICC WTC final 2023 which will be played between Rohit Sharma and co. and Pat Cummins’ Australian team at the Oval in London from June 7. Afghanistan last traveled to India for its inaugural Test match in 2018 which was played in Bengaluru.
Afghanistan’s short tour to India isn’t clear yet, but a formal announcement in this regard should be made by either of the boards soon. This is a major development since it signals BCCI’s support for cricket in Afghanistan even after the takeover of the Taliban there in August 2021.
The Indian board has always been in support of Afghanistan cricket as they have provided its stadiums in Greater Noida, Dehradun, and Lucknow as the home base of the Afghanistan cricket team.
“Yes, the Afghanistan cricket team will undertake a short tour to India in June, after the World Test Championship final (at The Oval in London from June 7-11),” a source in the BCCI told TOI.
India is scheduled to travel to the West Indies in July for two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is, instead of the three earlier.
Women’s Cricket In Afghanistan Is Beyond The Control Of the Afghanistan Cricket Board
In March, Afghanistan’s full membership in the International Cricket Council survived after an ICC Board meeting of the members came to the conclusion that the Taliban administration of that nation, not the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), is to blame for the absence of women’s cricket in that nation.
The Taliban, not ACB, isn’t keen on promoting the women’s game, thus the ICC Board members created an exception in this case. Full membership in the ICC requires the member to have a working women’s squad.
Since November, the ACB and Taliban representatives have met twice in Doha with Imran Khwaja, the working group’s leader and deputy chairman of the ICC.
