Afghanistan vs Ireland 2019: Only Test, Dehradun – Day 2 Report; It has been a repeat of the day for Afghanistan. They once again dominated things on the second day of the Test match with their astounding skills. However, this time, it was their batting department, who showed their brilliance to Ireland cricket team.
Rahmat Shah scored 98:
After starting the day with 90/2 in 30 overs, Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi carried their scintillating form with the bat. The duo was pretty solid for the team, who added 130 runs for the third wicket partnership before Shahid being dismissed for his personal scored of 61.
Meanwhile, Rahmat Shah suffered a heartbreak. He played superbly to get his 98 runs but unfortunately, couldn’t quite hold his nerves to get 100 to his name. In between, the Afghan skipper Asghar scored a fine 67-run knock to extend the lead for Afghanistan.
Just when things looked like drifting away, the Ireland bowlers pulled it back dramatically. They rattled through the defence of the rest of the batsmen to bundle out Afghanistan for 314 runs on the board.
At one stage, it was expected that Afghanistan is on the course to a massive tally. For Ireland, Dockrell, James and McBrine picked up a couple of wickets while Stuart Thompson bagged three wickets. Murtagh chipped in with one wicket.
William Porterfield goes for a duck:
After taking the 142-run lead in the first innings, Afghanistan once again got a brilliant start in the second innings. They sent back Ireland’s skipper for a golden duck which saw Afghanistan in complete control of the Test match.
Yamin Ahmadzai was successful in getting the nick off Porterfield’s bat, which fell in the hands of the keeper. Despite the early wicket, Paul Stirling and Andrew looked after the remaining tricky over to ensure no further hiccups.
At the end of the Day 2 stumps, Ireland scored 22/1 with a trail of 120 runs. The opening batsman Paul Stirling is with 8* while the number 3 batsman Andrew Balbirnie scored 14* run at the end of the day.

The day started by witnessing a magical knock from Rahmat Shah. However, he would be considering himself unlucky for not collecting a century. The Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan was also brilliant with the bat. For Ireland, Thompson bowled well with 3 wickets to his name.
Crucial Aspect of the day:
The partnership between Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi was the main reason behind Afghanistan’s dominance in the game. It turned things in favour of Afghanistan, who took a massive lead in the game.
