Afghanistan vs Ireland Only Test 2019 Dehradun – Match Report
Afghanistan scripted history as they registered their maiden Test victory as they defeated Ireland by 7 wickets in the one-off Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun today. It will be surely the biggest moment in the history of Afghanistan cricket. Winning a Test match is indeed a special achievement for the young bunch of guys who have come along a long way and have taken giant strides in international cricket.
2nd innings for Ireland
After securing a big lead of 142 runs, Afghanistan was in the driver’s seat. However, Ireland made a good comeback with the bat in the 2nd innings securing a tricky lead o f147 runs. It was going to be a tricky task for Afghanistan. However, they chased the target down with considerable ease in the end and won the match by 7 wickets.
Andrew Balbirnie was the top scorer for Ireland in the 2nd innings. He looked in great touch and defied the Afghan bowlers for a good amount of time. He also found the gaps quite consistently and struck 11 fours during his fluent knock. Eventually, he was dismissed by Waqar Salamkheil at the score of 82.
No 11 batsman Tim Murtagh again contributed with the bat quite brilliantly with a stroke-filled 27. Eventually, Ireland was bowled out for 288 giving Afghanistan a target of 147 in the 2nd innings.
2nd innings for Afghanistan
Afghanistan lost the opening wickets pretty cheaply which would have given some hope to the Irish. However, the sensational partnership of 139 runs Ihsanullah Janat scored a brilliant 65 which included 8 fours and a couple of sixes. He looked in sensational touch and took on the Irish bowlers.
Rahmat Shah on the other hand also looked in great touch and top-scored for the Afghans for a score of 78. His knock included 13 fours and was instrumental in taking the Afghans over the line. The hosts lost a couple of more wickets but by then the target was within touching distance. Eventually, the chased the target down with 7 wickets n the hut.
Performers of the day
The performers of the day were definitely the two Afghan batsmen Ihsanullah Janat and Rahmat Shah who looked exceptional and score 65 and 78 respectively which helped the hosts get over the line with utmost ease in the end.
