After R Ashwin, Murali Vijay To Miss Ranji Trophy Quarterfinal Against Karnataka
Tamil Nadu Ranji squad has dealt a major blow ahead of their knockout game against Karnataka as the team will miss out on the services of the Indian opener Murali Vijay in the quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2016/17. Vijay, who suffered a blow to his shoulder during the fifth and final Test match against England is yet to recover from it and hence has been ruled out of the game. Vijay did not open the innings after he suffered the blow, which meant that Parthiv Patel came out to open the innings.
Vijay’s exclusion is a big blow to the team as yesterday, R Ashwin was also excluded from the team as he has been suffering from a sports hernia and may need a surgery for the same.
The Abhinav Mukund-led Tamil Nadu squad will have an uphill task against the star-studded Karnataka squad, which has likes of R. Vinay Kumar, Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Stuart Binny and Mayank Agarwal in the squad. If compared to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu seems to be minnows and Karnataka are now the red hot favourites to qualify for the semi-finals. Still, one cannot write off the finalists of 2014/15 Ranji Trophy season, Tamil Nadu.
The five-day affair is scheduled to be played from December 23 at Vizag.
