Ajay Jadeja said that the one thing Virat Kohli can now do is to give India great Sachin Tendulkar a call. Virat Kohli, the Indian batter failed to make a mark in the 2nd ODI against England again, as he was dismissed on 16 while chasing a ball outside the off-stump. India’s star batter Virat Kohli is going through a severely rough patch over the past few months.
He endured a series of disappointing outings in the IPL 2022 and failed to cross the 20-run mark in any of his innings across the rescheduled fifth Test, two T20Is, and the last night’s ODI against England. Moreover, Virat Kohli has been rested for the T20I series against West Indies, meaning the third ODI against England on Sunday will be Virat Kohli’s last international appearance at least until late August.
Virat Kohli Should Call Sachin Tendulkar After Slump In Form: Ajay Jadeja
On Thursday, Virat Kohli was caught chasing a delivery outside-off as he nicked one for an easy catch for wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. Following the game where India lost by 100 runs, former India batter Ajay Jadeja said that the one thing Virat Kohli can now do is to give India great Sachin Tendulkar a call.
Virat Kohli had earlier revealed that he had talked to legendary former Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar after his disastrous tour in 2014, following which he made a splendid return to form.
“I said this 8 months ago when we were talking about this. I said the only man who can relate to what Virat Kohli is going through is Tendulkar. The only man who he should give a call and say, ‘let’s have a drink together. Have a nice meal’. Because who else, since starting at age 14 or 15, never had a bad patch? Only moved forward, and reached the heights Tendulkar had reached?” Ajay Jadeja said in the post-match show on Sony SIX.
Virat Kohli had disaster experiences during the 2014 England tour, which was one of the worst tours in his international career. In that England tour, while India played five Tests, the right-hand batter only managed to score 134 runs in that Test series with an average of just 13.40. His scores in that Test series were 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6 and 20 runs respectively.
Later, in that same tour, the ex-India skipper scored 0, 40, 1*, and 13 runs in the ODI series. While India also played only T20I in that England tour, it was the only game for Virat Kohli to play a 50+ knock in that entire tour as the right-handed batsman scored 66 runs in that game. After that horrific tour, Virat Kohli talked with the retired Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin Tendulkar Should Give Virat Kohli A Call: Ajay Jadeja
Virat Kohli, India’s modern-day run machine, with 23,693 international runs across formats at a 53.72 career average is the only batter with a 50-plus career average among the top run-getters in the world. Even the great Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the overall list of international runs with 34,357 runs, had a career average of 48.52.
Virat Kohli also has already scored a whopping 70 international hundreds (43 in ODIs & 27 in Tests) and he did that by 2019. He is third only behind Ricky Ponting (71) and Sachin Tendulkar (100) on the overall most international centuries list before the ongoing lean run began at the turn of the new decade.
For a long time, he averaged over 50 across all three formats – a feat that spoke volumes about just how prolific the former India captain has been over the years. Even now, Virat Kohli averages above 50 in ODIs and T20Is.
“So, I can’t think of anyone else, because I believe that everything is in the mind. So, he is a call away from Tendulkar. I hope even if Virat doesn’t call… it’s actually Sachin who should give him a call. Sometimes, young people are in that phase. When you are older, since you have been through that, it’s your duty to make that call. I hope Master does that,” Ajay Jadeja further said.
The series between India and England is poised for an exciting finish with Manchester to host the decider on July 17. India had earlier won the T20I series 2-1, while the Tests ended in a 2-2 draw.
