Ajinkya Rahane has become the first batsman of the Gandhi-Mandela series to notch up a brilliant hundred. In an innings where the second highest score is 44, scored captain Virat Kohli Rahane’s innings worth billions of praise.
The right-handed batsman scored 127 in 215 balls which is comprised of 10 boundaries and four sixes. Rahane’s innings helped to India, who lost seven wickets for 198 runs, to put 283 on board.
He completes his century with a beautiful off drive off Kyle Abbott.
In 2013, Rahane made his debut against Australia at Feroze Shah Kotla. He failed in his first Delhi match as he scored only 7 and 1 in two innings.
However, in Rahane’s wonderful hundred once again the shadow of India’s two batting order foundations VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid was visible. Famously legendary batsman Dravid and Laxman were known for their determination, temperament and technique. On many occasions, they rescued India from the difficult conditions and put a respectable total on board. They even won many matches singlehandedly.
This is also Rahane’s maiden Test hundred on home soil. His previous four hundred came at Wellington, the Lord’s, Melbourne and P. Sara Oval, Colombo.

Rahane’s achievement against all reckoning force in modern day Test cricket helped him to earn global reputation in a short span of time. Rahane also scored 96 at Kingsmead, Durban.
Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar praised Rahane, “In a short career, Rahane has shown he is a truly global player, viable in all conditions, the kind Ind need to become a great test side.”
Meanwhile, commentator Harsha Bhogle compared Rahane with Laxman as the reputed cricket analyst tweeted, “Rahane is getting distinctly Laxman-esque.”
