Ajit Agarkar was the last among the candidates to retire and has most international matches to his name. He played 26 Tests and 191 ODIs and picked up 58 Test wickets and 288 ODI wickets.

Agarkar also played four T20Is. With the bat, former all-rounder scored nearly 2,000 international runs. Agarkar also holds an ODI record, which is the quickest in terms of least number of matches played to take 200 wickets and complete 1,000 runs

According to media reports, Venkatesh Prasad, Rajesh Chauhan, and Amay Khurasiya have also applied for the role although there is still no clarity over it.
