Ajit Agarkar Slams Virat Kohli After KL Rahul’s Latest Failure

KL Rahul was one of the two change that India made for the fourth and final Test in Sydney, along with Kuldeep Yadav. The out-of-form opener came back into the side in place of Rohit Sharma, who returned home to be with his wife and newborn daughter. Rahul was dropped along with Murali Vijay for the last Test in Melbourne after his horrific run-of-form.

A chance in Sydney would have been impossible for Rahul but it came only because Rohit had to leave. However, the Karnataka star failed to grab the opportunity and could score only 9 before being sent back by Josh Hazlewood. Rahul looked uneasy at the crease and could last for only six deliveries. Hazlewood dismissed him for the fourth time in his Test career – the joint most along with Stuart Broad and Nathan Lyon. In his six-ball stay at the crease, Rahul got two boundaries as he kept edging the balls.

Following his latest failure, former India allrounder Ajit Agarkar came down hard on skipper Virat Kohli. Agarkar said that Rahul is in the team only because Kohli prefers him over other openers.

“Captain likes him, as simple as that. He has got the potential but unfortunately he has not been in great form. Virat Kohli clearly prefers him over some of the other openers we have seen. May be Prithvi Shaw would have been the only guy that would have played ahead of him,” he told ESPNcricinfo.

“He’s got to start getting some runs. It’s a nice opportunity on one of the better surfaces in Australia.  I would have picked Vijay. Vijay looked good in Perth (second innings),” he added.

Meanwhile, after Rahul’s departure,  Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara soon helped India regain the control. The two batted solidly and did not let Australia take any more wicket before lunch. At lunch, India were 69 for 1.  The two added 116 runs for the second wicket before Agarwal fell to Nathan Lyon. The right-handed batsman scored 77.
