In the last week or a so, suspension and ball-tampering have been the hottest topic. In the last few days, we saw Suspended Aussie skipper Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner giving their point of view on the ball-tampering scandal. Smith broke out during the press-conference after returning to Australia. Cricket Australia has sent a strong message after banning this two players who were of the highest repute in the nation.
The latest in the list is Akhtar Shaikh a local Mumbai cricketer. The Managing Committee of the Mumbai Club Association (MCA) on Thursday slapped a life ban on Shaikh after Newspaper daily Midday exposed the club cricketer for playing under a different name in Rajasthan;’s Rajwada Cricket League in 2017.
He will not be allowed to participate in any MCA affiliated tournaments in his life. He was playing for the Mumbai North Panthers in the inaugural Mumbai League when the news got viral on 15th March. He has already been part of the league in a couple of matches when the punishment was announced. He played for the Dr. HD Kanga Cricket League for National Club Cross Maiden in 1st Division.
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of the league while Sunil Gavaskar has been made the mentor of the tournament. All matches of the tournament will be played at the Wankhede Stadium. It is seen as a platform for young budding local cricketers from the region.
The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Siddhesh Lad, Abhishek Nayar, Shreyas Iyer, Paul Valthaty are part of the tournament.
