Just a few months after breaking the record of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, the England skipper Alastair Cook tumbled another record held by an Indian player as Alastair Cook went on to become first ever batsman to score 10000 Test runs as an opener. The record was previously held by the veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar who had a tally of 9607 runs as an opener. Gavaskar took a total of 203 innings to achieve this milestone whereas Cook took a total of 229 innings to achieve this milestone. No matter the innings, Cook has broken another record and now he is the one who owns this record.
Cook achieved this record during the second Test match between England and Bangladesh in Dhaka.
A couple of months back, he became the youngest ever batsman to cross 10000 runs mark in Test cricket breaking the record of Sachin Tendulkar. He achieved this record against Sri Lanka. Before the start of that series he needed only 36 to eclipse Tendulkar’s record and he accomplished the record at his home.
With each passing day, he is approaching and eclipsing each and very record held by Indian legends and surely the more he plays, the more records he will break. The rate at which he is playing at the moment, we might see him becoming one of the successful cricketers in Test cricket, might be breaking the record of Sachin Tendulkar 200 Test matches as well.
