Alastair Cook should be dropped as ODI skipper, believes Darren Gough

Alastair Cook‘s extremely terrible tour of Sri Lanka as England captain ended on a unhappy note after his side lost the final One Day International at Colombo by 87 runs and thus losing the series 2-5.

The selectors should dangle their faces in shame. It is an ignominy they keep picking the alike team. Ring him up and he will pick a team to go to the World Cup. They likely cannot win it but he told that they will show a bit more style and fight than the team they have chosen so far. It is shameful seeing the same mistakes being made repeatedly.

While Gough presented his point of view, former captain, Michael Vaughan said that it would not affect England’s World Cup preparations if Cook is released as the ODI captain before the World Cup.

Vaughan said in a popular newspaper that removing Alastair Cook as skipper of the England ODI team just short of a World Cup would not be a bad thing.  If they release Cook on Friday it will not have a big effect on the team.

Michael Vaughan believes that Cook’s leadership quality does not suits to the standards of the ODI or T-20 cricket now-a-days and his batting style does not suit the format either. He also believes that Eoin Morgan would be a better replacement as the next captain for England team, though he too had a extremely terrible tour of Sri Lanka recently.

He said he cannot progress again and force the bowler to change his line and length. Alastair cannot do that. He is motionless so it is easy to bowl at him and set the plan meaning he will always munch up balls. Eoin Morgan can step in as skipper. He knows he is not in best form. His best innings on this tour was when he was captain too. Michael Vaughan also said that he actually likes captaincy.
