The England One Day International team under Alastair Cook, has been defeated in the ongoing One Day International (ODI) series by Sri Lanka, trailing 4-2 in the seven match matter. This is England’s fourth successive One Day International (ODI) series loss, which has elicited the England management to review Alastair Cook’s position as Skipper.
Peter Moores, the England coach, focused light on the circumstances saying Alastair has said clearly he is very eager to continue, but also knows that is not his decision. Nobody has got the assurance of that. He heard people say someone is unsackable. That would be an absurd comment.
Peter Moores, however, indicated his personal belief on the circumstances of wanting Cook to remain skipper till the next year’s biggest event of cricket World Cup 2015. He said, if he is asked for opinion on Alastair, he would have elected Alastair as captain for the World Cup, but they will review at the end of the series, not just Alastair’s leadership quality, but the whole team, and pick their side.
The pressure of captaincy is even affecting his One Day International (ODI) batting performances seemingly, scoring only 87 runs in his five innings in the ongoing series at a paltry average of 17. He scored in this period is only 34, which is the highest. This tendency is not distinctive to this series as he averages just 24.95 with 499 runs in his last 21 One Day Internationals, with an only half century in the session.
Despite the bad presentation, the selector’s committee has been supportive of Alastair Cook. The England national selector, James Whitaker revealed his support for Alastair Cook in September following the home series losses to Sri Lanka and India calling Cook “an extraordinary leader. He added that the selectors were cent percent behind him.
When he was asked if there was uncertainty in regards with Alastair Cook’s role, he answered he is not confused he is very clear, at the end of the series, they will rethink. If He is asked for opinion, he thinks Alastair Cook will be captain for the World Cup which is quite clear.
