In-form batsman Alex Carey’s helmet was knocked off by a brutal bouncer from Jofra Archer in the ongoing semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Australia got off to a shaky start- losing three crucial wickets inside the first ten overs. The incident took place in the eighth over. The Aussies were struggling at 19/3 when an 86mph delivery from England pacer Archer knocked off Carey’s helmet in a lethal manner.

Carey bleeds as England intimidate the Aussies

Carey took the blow to the chin and there was blood to be seen. The incident clocked back the event from the famous 2005 Ashes series where Steve Harmison hit on Ricky Ponting‘s helmet with a nasty bouncer- resulting in a lot of first-aid help for the former Australian skipper as he was seen bleeding.

To Carey’s credit, he didn’t let the helmet hit the stumps as that would have resulted in a hit-wicket. He immediately called out for help and later on carried on batting. In the very next over, Carey hit Woakes for a boundary. The onus is on him and Steve Smith to stitch a solid stand here and get Australia to a respectable score.

The rivalry is at it’s best at Birmingham

England have been quite intimidating in the ongoing marquee event and especially Archer. After bowling the lethal delivery, Archer went back to his bowling mark and didn’t check on Carey. Though, skipper Eoin Morgan and some of the close-in fielders had a quick word with the Australian batsman.

Both sides will look to bring out their best brand of cricket in order to advance to the finale and set an appointment with New Zealand at the home of cricket- Lord’s. The Kiwis beat heavyweight India to make their way to the finals, courtesy an 18-run win at the Old Trafford.
