England opening batsman Alex Hales is all set to return to cricketing action when he comes out to bat for Nottinghamshire when the county takes on Durham in the One Day Cup on 3rd May 2019. Nottinghamshire said that it is in the best interest of all concerned that Alex Hales has managed to return to competitive cricket as soon as possible.
Alex Hales was withdrawn from the preliminary 15 member England squad for the 2019 World Cup. He has not been picked for the ODI series against Ireland and Pakistan either. Alex Hales tested positive to a recreational drug and it was the 2nd time he committed the offence. He was subsequently suspended for 21 days.
In a statement released by Nottinghamshire on Wednesday, it said that Alex Hales has been cleared to play as early as Friday. He in all likelihood will be available for the rest of the Royal London ODI cup and will also look to force his way back into the England team.
“The meeting was open, honest and constructive and a way forward was agreed between both parties,” the statement read. “Alex has expressed a great deal of regret and contrition for his actions and he has ultimately paid a heavy price.
“He accepts that the position he finds himself in is of his own making. He knows he has a long road back to redeem himself in the eyes of many people, but that now has to be his aim. After much deliberation, we believe it’s in the best interests of all concerned for him to get back to playing cricket for Nottinghamshire as quickly as possible.”
Meanwhile the head coach of Nottinghamshire, Peter Moores stated that he expected Alex Hales to take the decision by the scruff of the neck and positively.
“I’d like him to be involved,” Moores said. “Anyone who misses out on a World Cup is going to be very disappointed.”But it’s how he reacts to it – I expect Alex to react in the right way.”
