All The Discussions Were Very Fruitful, Says Vinod Rai After Meeting Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni About Player Contracts & FTP

Vinod Rai, chief of Committee of Administrators (CoA), on Thursday stated that player compensation would soon be matched with revenue earned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The Supreme Court-appointed committee along with the BCCI top officials held a meeting with India captain Virat Kohli, former captain and veteran player MS Dhoni and head coach in Delhi to discuss on the much-talked-about the schedule and salaries. Rai said the meeting was a fruitful one during which the principle on which the compensation will be formed was agreed upon, and the officials will now match the board’s revenue with the players’ compensation.
“We had extensive discussions with players on issues that pertain to them directly, which means the number of matches they have to play, the Future Tours Program (FTP) and compensation package etc,” Rai said after the meeting. “In terms of principles on which the compensation package has to be structured, that we have agreed to. It is only a question of numbers. We will now match the revenue with the compensation that each player will receive.”
The players’ contract is due for renewal since September with reports suggesting that the cricketers are not happy with their remuneration. According to the last annual contract, the Grade A players were paid INR 2 Crore per annum while Grade B and C cricketers received INR 1 Crore and INR 50 Lakh respectively.
In addition to the central contracts, the players were also getting INR 15 lakh per Test, INR 6 Lakh per One Day International and INR 3 Lakh for a Twenty20 International.
The case is same with the schedule as just a few days ago, Kohli had made his displeasure public over the cramped schedule. Kohli had vented his frustration as India were not getting enough time to prepare for the tough series in South Africa, starting next month.
The former CAG chief further insisted that he was not in a position to tell how many days of cricket the team is going to play in the coming years but said that the players were happy with the new FTP, which is going to be discussed at an ICC workshop next week.
“All the inputs they have to give us were taken and we are going to factor those in. The FTP, we bounced it off them. Presentations have been made and they are in agreement with the FTP so that they get enough rest. Number of days, I can’t tell you as we have not yet worked it out,” Rai said.
“All the discussions were very fruitful. They were very receptive. As a consequence of which, they said, ‘For the first time someone is having a dialogue with us.’ Otherwise earlier it used to be decisions taken and communicated to them. All the inputs that they had to give us have been taken. We are going to factor them in,” he added.
