Mumbai Indians have lost a close encounter in the Maharastra derby against Rising Pune Supergiant in the 28th game of IPL as the latter got the better of Mumbai Indians twice in this season.
The Steve Smith led side have won the game by 3 runs at the end after a dramatic turn around which was well crafted by their fine death over bowling. However, the moment of controversy came when Umpire S Ravi decided to not give a wide ball in the final over which played into Rohit Sharma’s mind as Mumbai Indians fell short of Pune’s total.
Having needed 17 runs off the last over, Hardik Pandya was caught out by Stokes off the first ball of the over. Rohit Sharma have managed to hit a six on the second ball which brought the equation to 11 runs from 4 balls. However, next ball the right hander have shuffled across his stumps and Unadkat has bowled it wide and having not been able to reach for the ball, Rohit had let the ball leave thinking that it would be called wide.
But the umpire has turned down and called it fair delivery and Rohit Sharma had a heated argument with the umpire about the decision. Having lost his cool, the elegant right handed batsman have skied the ball and was dismissed the next ball.
Bollywood superstar Big B, who is an ardent supporter of Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League, has expressed his dissatisfaction over the umpire’s decision as he believes that it is the reason for MI’s loss in the crucial game which could have seen them win seven games in a row this season.
Amitabh Bachchan has expressed his discontent in his tweet which read: “T 2504 – That was a wide ball in the last over, by miles !! Not giving it has cost MI the game .. !! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH !!!”

As per the ICC regulations, the decision can be considered correct but given the context of the game, it is adequate to say that the argument played into Rohit’s mind which has played a part in their loss.
