Amitabh Choudhury Expresses Displeasure at Rahul Johri Issuing Advertisement Without His Consent
Acting Secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Amitabh Chaudhary has voiced his displeasure over CEO Rahul Johri permitting the publication of an advertisement for the post of the Team Manager of Indian Women’s cricket team without taking his consent. According to the general agreement made in BCCI, if there is any notification of a cricketing appointment, the circular must be approved by the honorary general secretary.
As per reports, Johri had sent an email to the members on November 28 stating that:
“as per decision taken by Committee of Administrators (COA) during a meeting on October 24 and 25, the advertisement for the position of Team Manager for the Indian Women’s team inviting application will be uploaded on BCCI website today”.
Upon finding than advertisement has been issued in his name, he wrote a letter to Johri which is the possession of PTI. The message read:
“I am surprised at this. I was in the office (Cricket centre) a day before (November 27) and no one mentioned of it (advertisement) and an advertisement in my name has already been uploaded with me not having had even a look at it. Wonder what was the tearing hurry.”
The question which has been raised by Chaudhury is a valid one given Indian Women’s team next assignment is only in February. However, the advertisement has been removed from the website. The position which is there on the website is for GM in Cricket Operations.
However, as per reports, the BCCI insiders are not surprised at the fact that the opinion difference between two office-bearers has again come out in the open. “There is still no clarity as to who is the executive functionary of the board. If one goes by the book that BCCI has followed all these years is that acting secretary is the face of the organisation. Under the regime of COA, it has turned out to be CEO. The CEO is a salaried employee was supposed to report to the secretary.
“Already, one of the issues that the members have raised is a clear demarcation between the roles of a secretary and the CEO,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by BCCI on the condition of anonymity. Meanwhile, the Committee of Administrators and the CEO met today at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai today.
