Andhra Pradesh Ranji Cricketer Imprisoned for Impersonating MSK Prasad: Report
In what could be stated as a bizarre episode, Andhra Pradesh Ranji cricketer, Budumuru Nagaraju, who has from Visakhapatnam, has been put behind the bars, for pretended to be the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) chief of selectors. MSK Prasad.
According to the report carried by News Minute, Nagaraju has defrauded multiple people. And a complaint was lodged regarding the extortion of money. So much so, the cricketer in his mid-twenties had managed to fetch sponsorships in a bid to mint money.
Nagaraju used a unique modus operandi while mimicking Prasad’s voice to lure money from the people.
A person namely, N Gopal has filed the complaint against Nagaraju.
Besides, he has used Prasad’s name to collect INR 3.88 lakh from the Ramakrishna Housing Private Limited.
“In 2018 with a motive to earn easy money, he duped a person called N Gopal claiming that he would establish a Dhoni Cricket Academy in Visakhapatnam. Gopal filed a complaint and a case was registered at that time in Visakhapatnam,” News Minute quoted Gopal as saying.
Also, Nagaraju has partaken in the Central Zone and the South Zone from his state team.
However, on May 2, the Vijayawada police have cracked down on him in the vicinity of the Gannavaram airport. Nagaraju used to live a luxurious life. Subsequently, it further saw him making a fake promise regarding the brand new cricket academy in Visakhapatnam.
“Following the successes in his career, Nagaraju started getting sponsorships from different firms and was habituated to a luxurious lifestyle,” ACP Central Y Ankineedu Prasad was also quoted in the report.
According to the official, the police have already swung into action before. Nagaraju got on arrested on two occasions for duping people. However, after being released from jail, he started imitating Prasad over the phone.
Nagaraju has also claimed that he had been the part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In a bid to mint money easily, he has reset his name as ‘MSK Prasad’ on the Truecaller application.
Police have also seized a Pulsar bike and cash of INR 1,80,500.
“Then he changed his profile name to MSK Prasad on the Truecaller app. And after which he impersonated the former cricketer and collected Rs 2.88 lakh claiming that he represented Kolkata Knight Riders,” official stated.
Furthermore, the official reiterated that he had observed the way Nagaraju used to speak at the prize distribution ceremony.
“He closely observed Prasad in a few prize distribution sessions and noted how he speaks,” official maintained.
In 2016, he also tried to set his name into the Guinness Book of World Records for aiming to make it to the longest net session on the individual’s basis.
According to the police, Nagaraju has spent 82 hours in nets to seal the record.
However, in India, Virag Mare holds the record. He spent over 50 hours in the nets, in 2015 (Pune).
