The last couple of years has witnessed the unbelievable rise of Andre Russell as a match winner in T20 cricket. The powerful Jamaican has been a game changer for the West Indies, and his heroics were for everyone to see during the ICC World T20 2016. Russell was simply destructive with the bat lower down the order.

More than his batting, though, it’s his bowling that has improved quite a lot. While representing the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, Russell has time and again struck with the new ball for his side. Russell has been so good with the ball in this IPL, that he is already the leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far. Post his side’s victory over the Kings XI Punjab, Russell was simply delighted as the Knight Riders are positioned at the top of the points table.

“If I was in a situation where I have to do well to play the next game, maybe I would worry about my game and would not perform the way I do. Knowing that I will play the next game, I’m confident.” “It does not matter if I make runs or take wickets, it gives me the confidence to go out there and do my thing. It’s reassuring to know that the coaching staff and the captain have the confidence in you,” said Russell.

Russell reiterated the fact that he was enjoying his role as an all-rounder. “As a cricketer, I want to leave behind a legacy, set standards as high as possible. I love these challenges, enjoy bowling in the moments where I can win the game. If it goes the other way, I learn from it and take the positives. I enjoy workload and want to go from strength to strength. “It’s what I really work hard for. I know my job is not easy, it’s very hard. Batting till the end and then bowling the first over, I don’t mind doing it.”
